What's Left to Do in Life

A couple of weeks ago Alex and I were driving back to San Antonio from beautiful College Station. And as we drove we talked about all the things we want to do along the drive between the two cities; a mini bucket list of sorts to complete along good ol' Highway 21:
take pictures with the Old Dimebox Museum mailbox, have a drink at the It's All Good Bar, [pretend to] eat menudo from the Hot Menudo daily stand, etc.

While it was just silly conversation to fill time, it did make me think of all the things I want to do beyond Highway 21 before my life is over. Some are silly, some are serious, but in either case, I want to do them all.

Here now [in no particular order] is my Bucket List [as of now, anyway]:

.Sky dive.
.Get a tattoo.
.Meet Andrew McMahon.
.Get married whilst barefoot.
.Go [back] to Europe.
.Learn to hula dance.
.Throw a party for my puppy.
.Dye my hair brown.
.Own a bakery.
.Live in a cute old house.
.Experience Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
.Start a family.
.Stomp grapes.
.Win money in Vegas.
.Go back to Lakeview as a namesake.
.Start wearing hats, preferably vintage ones.
.Win an award [any award will do].
.Take up photography.
.Save someone's life.
.Have my own version of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.
.Own a lakehouse.
.Travel the country visiting obscure museums.
.Learn how to cook.
.Live Life to the Fullest.

Summer Rain

.Rainy Days were Meant for Reading.

This week God decided that it was finally time for San Antonio to get some rain. In celebration of this wonderful summer rain I decided to start a new book; something I haven't done in a very long time. My selection? The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd; a fascinating little story about a woman who falls in love with a monk.

I sat there curled up in the big green chair in the corner of our living room using only the light from the rain clouds outside to illuminate the pages in my hands. I listened to the sounds of the rain drops pelting our tin roof while my puppy slept peacefully in my lap as I read. I can't remember the last time I felt so at ease with the world.

.It was truly magical.

The Day Has Finally Come

.Just Another Monday.
Or is it?

I woke up this morning in College Station, just as I have done [nearly] every day for the past four years. I got dressed, jumped in my car and got on University; a typical daily routine. But instead of heading eastbound, today I headed west. I passed Wehner, Research Park and Easterwood Airport. I continued west and as I did, I watched College Station slowly fade away in my rear view mirror. My heart broke a little.

I am no longer a student at Texas A&M and I am no longer a resident of College Station. My college years have officially come to an end and it is time I move on to my adult life. If I am to be honest, I must admit I am not ready for this change. But life goes on and alas, I must go with it. Whereever it may lead me.

.My heart will always be in that little college town on the Brazos, even if my feet aren't.
